Vinh University places substantial emphasis on scientific research activities, innovation, and the development of strong research groups, considering this a key task in science and technology and an important link to the enhancement of quality education, thereby contributing to the university‘s growing reputation.

The university‘s research groups are led by top scientists from myriad research fields, both within and outside the university. The activities of these research groups are integrated with undergraduate and postgraduate students, and also involve collaboration with domestic and international institutions.

Some of the research groups focus on cutting-edge interdisciplinary research such as “Optics” and “Selected Issues in Modern Mathematics.” While others delve into “Advanced Materials,” “Assessment of Plant Diversity Potential,” “Sustainable Biological Diversity Development,” and “Application of Plant Science Achievements in Practice.”

These robust research groups have led to inclusion in international publications, implemented projects, and student-supported research, while successful, defended postgraduate students have increased both quantitatively and qualitatively.

In the period from 2019 to 2023, the Optics research group published over sixty papers in prestigious international journals indexed in the Web of Science and Scopus. Further, the Optics group carried out eight national and ministerial-level scientific and technological tasks and participated in the training of five research students and over eighty masters students. During that same period, the Advanced Materials research group published over twenty papers in prestigious international journals indexed in the Web of Science and Scopus, carried out three national and ministerial-level scientific and technological tasks, and participated in the training of one research student and over ten masters students.

These encouraging results are attributed to the university‘s continuous attention to scientific and technological activities, innovation, and its collaborative relationships with dozens of universities and international scientific organizations. The investment policies, priorities, and commendations of the university have provided motivation to drive the activities of these strong research groups. Moreover, the active participation of faculty members in scientific and technological activities and innovation further contributes to these outcomes.

Additionally, Vinh University possesses infrastructure that meets the requirements for both education and scientific research. The university has a system of well-invested and equipped laboratories, such as quantum laboratories, optical spectroscopy laboratories, and food chemistry laboratories. These laboratories are all linked to the activities of the research groups.
